Central Penn Knights basketball drops doubleheader to PSU Brandywine

The Lady Knights lost their season-opener 77–72 to host Penn State Brandywine. The visitors were in foul trouble early, trying to stop the Nittany Lions driving offense, and fell behind 20–14 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Knights surged back in the second quarter, cutting the lead to 1, 39–38, at halftime. By the end of the third quarter, the CPC squad evened the score at 54. The Lady Knights continued to battle hard, but with five minutes left in the game PSU opened up a six-point lead, which the visitors were never able to overcome.

Junior point guard Tahniyaah Jackson (right) led the way for the Lady Knights with 26 points. Guard Sidney Green pumped in 16, with forward Yahnaya Edwards contributing 11.

The Lady Knights travel to Penn Schuylkill tonight for a 6 p.m. tip-off against the Lady Lions.

Men lose 86–74 in second game

Early in the first half, the Nittany Lions jumped out to an 18–8 lead. The Knights fought back, tying the game at 21 on a jump shot by Randy Dupont at the 11:10 mark. That would be CPC’s last bucket for over five minutes. By the time the Knights scored again, the Lions were up by 15, 39–24, and led at half, 46–33.

The Knights played solid in the second half, but the double-digit deficit was too large to overcome, and they fell 86–74 to suffer their first loss of the season.

Central Penn had five players in double figures, led by forward Tyler Hunter’s 20 points (left), followed by Dupont with 16, Rodney Ross 14, Nate Jean-Philippe 13 and Aaron Harrison 11.

On Saturday, the Knights will travel to Penn State Kensington for a 3 p.m. start against the Nittany Lions.
