Women's basketball to host inaugural tournament

By Brian Christiana, Knightly News Reporter

The Central Penn women’s basketball team will host a tournament at East Pennsboro High School on Nov. 9 and 10.

In addition to the Lady Knights, other participants include the College of Southern Maryland, Penn State Mont Alto and Penn State Scranton.

“They are teams we play against every year and have built a strong competitive relationship with.” said Coach Kasey Hicks.

In the first game on Friday night, the College of Southern Maryland faces Penn State Scranton at 6 p.m., and Central Penn competes against Penn State Mont Alto at 8 p.m.

The Lady Knights are coming off a successful 2017–2018 season, and Hicks has prepared this year’s team to build on that success. A total of 16 women will suit up for the squad.

The tournament was an idea that had been percolating for years, but Hicks and her staff decided to make it happen for the 2018–2019 season.

At the end of two days of competition, an all-tournament team and most valuable player will be chosen.

“This is a huge step forward for our program, and I encourage everyone––students, alumni, faculty and staff––to come out this weekend and enjoy some competitive college basketball,” said Hicks.
