Women's Soccer Team Volunteering in the Harrisburg Community

The Central Penn College Women’s Soccer team recently assisted a group of dedicated volunteers at the St.  Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in the Allison Hill neighborhood in the City of Harrisburg.

The Central Penn players and coaches helped unload and distribute food at the Saint Francis Food Pantry. The food is delivered by the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank and on every Tuesday, volunteers at the church unload the truck and set-up a distribution area that serves about 200 hundred families in the neighborhood around the church

According to Coach Grubesky, “since one of our college’s core values is community service, our team has strived to complete a variety of community service projects and create a culture of being servant leaders.”

Grubesky added, “when I was asked if we could help at the food pantry, I thought it was a good project for our players to be able to help get food and other necessities to those people who are less fortunate than us.”

Coach Grubesky said, “ I was very proud of how hard our players worked and interacted with the community. I think our ladies were surprised by how many people wanted to talk with them about soccer, too. In addition, I received several compliments from the food pantry organizers on how well our players did representing the college and our women’s soccer program.”
